Condom makers brace for massive rise in sales as restrictions ease

The pandemic has caused a growth in mistrust in social relationships. The closeness and interest with which new people were previously known gave way to a sea of concerns about a possible contagion. This, of course, also influenced sexual relationships around the world, something that was clearly reflected in condom sales.

Karex’s sales volume, for example, fell 40% During the past two years. The famous company, which supplies the Durex brand, was one of the companies that most noted the impact of the pandemic on sexual relations.

However, this period single seems to be coming to an end, or at least that’s what the condom manufacturer predicts. During its latest earnings call, Karex announced that sales were getting back to normal.

So much so, that the Malaysian company assured that sales to soar as restrictions ease globally. In fact, the company is already preparing to resume its usual production of 5.5 billion condoms a year.

The closure of the hotel industry influenced the drop in condom sales

These two years of falling sales have nothing to do with the forecasts that were made at the beginning of the pandemic. Experts expected a significant increase in salesthey even warned about the current global shortage of condoms.

However, spending more time at home has not served to boost relationships. In fact, everything seems to respond to the fact that these meetings are held to a greater extent outside the home, especially in hotels and hostels.

This is stated by the CEO of Karex, Goh Miah Kiat, who explains that the closure of the hospitality industry worldwide drastically impacted when buying condoms.

On the other hand, Goh also attributes this fall in sales to the different governments of the world, which they paralyzed their condom distribution programs to the population. “A large part is distributed by governments around the world, which have significantly reduced purchasing during COVID-19,” said the CEO, as he collects Insider.
