Colbrelli ‘shows no signs of concern’ but withdraws from Volta

BARCELONA, 22 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Italian cyclist Sonny Colbrelli, of the Bahrain-Victorious, is “conscious” after fainting at the finish line of the first stage of the Volta a Catalunya and being transferred to a hospital, where the cardiac procedures performed “show no signs of concern”, although will not start this Tuesday in the second stage.

In a statement, Bahrain reported that Colbrelli will undergo further tests and will not be able to contest the second stage, in the same way as his teammate Jack Haig, who has felt unwell before the start of the day.

“Sonny Colbrelli is conscious and well. He will undergo further tests today to discover the cause of yesterday’s incident. All cardiac tests carried out last night showed no signs of concern or compromised functions,” the Bahrain-Victorious team said in a statement. .

The Italian cyclist was admitted to a hospital in Girona on Monday after fainting after a cardiorespiratory arrest at the end of the first stage of the Volta a Catalunya, ending in Sant Feliu de Guíxols and in which he finished second only behind the Australian Michael Matthews (Team Bike Exchange-Jayco).

In the case of the Australian Jack Haig, he will not start the second stage, starting in l’Escala and finishing in Perpinyà, 202.4 kilometers long, as “he is not feeling well”, in the words of the Bahrain-Victorious team, which will lose for this day to two of the seven men participating in the race. In this way, Dylan Teuns, Wout Poels, Phil Buahaus, Santiago Buitrago and Hermann Persteiner remain in the running.
