The United States is set to re-dominate the Tokyo 2020 Olympics medal table, but suffered a valuable loss in tennis. Tennis player Cori Gauff, better known as Coco Gauff, was left out of the summer joust after having tested positive for coronavirus.
Through her official twitter account, Coco regretted having fallen ill with the virus that paralyzed the whole world, and that even in 2020 it was the cause that the event had to be postponed until 2021.
“I am very disappointed to share the news that I have tested positive for coronavirus and therefore will not be able to be at the Tokyo Olympics. It has always been my dream to be able to represent the United States in the fair. I hope I get the chance later, “Gauff wrote.
At just 17 years old, the North American tennis player is already in 25th place in the WTA ranking and has just competed at Wimbledon, where she was eliminated in the Eighth Finals against former world number one, German Angelique Kerber.
Gauff won her first individual WTA title during the 2019 Linz tournament at the age of 15, making her the youngest singles champion since 2004.
In this way, Coco will have to set her sights on Paris 2024 in order to fulfill her dream of being able to represent our country in an Olympic Games, hoping to arrive with much more maturity and greater learning.
