City and Liverpool open their 2022 in London

MADRID, 31 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Premier, pending like everyone in the sport of the daily coronavirus tests, celebrates its day 21 with a grand opening of 2022, an Arsenal-Manchester City on New Year’s Day that will measure the great moment of both teams, while that Liverpool will also be tested in London against Chelsea.

The City closed 2021 with a blow to the table in the Premier, consolidating its leadership in a streak that its pursuers cannot follow. Pep Guardiola’s team leads the table with 50 points to 42 for the ‘blues’ and 41 for the ‘reds’, although they have one game less, the one postponed against Leeds.

English football has not been spared the coronavirus escabechina during the month of December, one outbreak after another in different teams in the middle of the Christmas marathon of matches. Thus, the traditional intense schedule at this time in Premier was not so much due to the suspension of multiple duels.

With the New Year, the alert continues, although at the moment only Leicester-Norwich, which was scheduled for day 1, has fallen for the moment. 2022 will be opened at the Emirates by an Arsenal that is fourth and enjoys its best moment with Mikel Arteta and a City that has 10 consecutive victories in the League with a strong sense of superiority.

On Sunday they will meet, also in the English capital, Chelsea and Liverpool, second and third, with the locals in their worst moment since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel. The meteoric landing of the German coach almost a year ago resulted in the achievement of the Champions League, and this season the Premier seemed the goal.

The ‘blue’ machine, however, has deflated in recent days and has also seen how Lukaku has shown his longing for Inter. Liverpool have also lost pace, after failing the last two days against Leicester and Tottenham. The ‘Spurs’, with three pending matches and undefeated with Antonio Conte, are on the lookout for the ‘Top 4’, as are West Ham and United.

Tottenham visit Watford on day 1, like the ‘Hammers’, who will play away against Crystal Palace, while United’s game will be the only one on Monday, against Wolverhampton. The ‘red devils’ seem in good dynamics with Ralf Rangnick, finding the results before the game, but adding to be in that important fight for the Champions League zone.
