Chus Mateo: “When the moment of fatigue arrives you have to face it with optimism”

MADRID, 18 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Real Madrid basketball coach, Chus Mateo, believes that he must know how to “face with optimism when the moment of fatigue arrives” within a season with a large number of games and in which none should be taken lightly and thinking about take a break because “positive dynamics help you build.”

“We know that the calendar is very tough and that it is very important that when the moment of fatigue arrives we have to face it with optimism. It is a very stressful moment now, thirteen games in a month are many and punishing, but we have to overcome it mentally and physically,” Mateo warned in a press conference reported on the club's website.

Despite this wear and tear, they do not plan to “throw any game” and they will “always” want to win. “We are aware that we cannot maintain the same level all year round. In four months we have lost only four games and I am happy with the team, but we have to know how to manage both the positive and negative dynamics. As for management, I It is more worrying that when the injured return they do so in good condition,” he said.

In this sense, the Madrid coach ruled out Walter Tavares and Sergio Llull for the visit to the Principality and made it clear that they will not take risks with any of them, even though there is a month left until the Copa del Rey in Malaga, the first big event of the season. “I trust to have them one hundred percent when the time comes. I am not going to rush deadlines for the Copa del Rey, but I hope to have them, I hope they arrive with enough time in advance,” he remarked.

Mateo stressed that they cannot relax because “positive dynamics help you build.” “We are going to continue fighting to win each game and have the home field advantage. Since May of last year we have only lost two Euroleague games and that gives you confidence to continue working day to day with the same intensity and confidence, but there is have to forget about the past and think only about the next day,” he said.

Regarding the visit to AS Monaco, he recalled that “it is never easy to play on a small field” and that his rival “has a lot of individual talent on the perimeter.” “It's going to be a difficult match, in which we're going to have to fight a lot and bring out our best version because this way we'll have a better chance of winning,” he said.
