China still without F1 Grand Prix in 2023 due to the pandemic

MADRID, 2 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Formula 1 confirmed this Friday that China will remain off the calendar for the next 2023 World Cup due to the “COVID-19 situation” in the Asian country, which last hosted an F1 Grand Prix in 2019.

“Formula 1 confirms that the 2023 Chinese Grand Prix will not take place,” the championship organization announced in a brief and clear statement.

In it, F1 argues that after dialogue with the promoter and the relevant authorities of the Chinese event, it can confirm the cancellation of the 2023 Chinese GP due to the “continuing difficulties” presented by the pandemic.

“Alternative options to replace the slot in the 2023 calendar are being evaluated and F1 will provide an update on this in due course,” the statement urged.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, originating in China, the Shanghai International Circuit was left without taking part in the championship in recent editions. In fact, the last race was in 2019, with victory for Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes).
