The Chileans assure that the right-handed player was born in Colombia
MADRID, 5 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Chilean Football Federation has asked FIFA this Thursday to investigate the international with Ecuador Byron Castillo due to doubts about his place of birth, since it considers that this footballer “was not eligible” in the last qualifying phase.
A statement from the Chilean Football Federation indicated their belief that right-back Byron Castillo was born in Colombia in 1995, not Ecuador in 1998, as previously thought. Castillo played eight games for the Ecuadorian team in World Cup qualifying, and ‘La Tri’ is set to participate in Qatar later this year.
Ecuador has been drawn into Group A along with host Qatar, as well as Senegal and the Netherlands. However, the Chilean team will not be able to play in the competition as they finished seventh in said phase. This Thursday, his Federation issued a statement detailing its accusations about Castillo and demanding an investigation by FIFA.
“We understand, based on all the information and documents collected, that the facts are too serious and must be thoroughly investigated by FIFA,” the statement said.
“The investigations carried out in Ecuador, including a judicial report from the National Directorate of the Civil Registry, the highest authority on the matter in this country, declared the existence of inconsistencies in the birth certificate presented by the player, and reported that this document does not exist. in its internal files, pointing out other weaknesses in the document, to conclude that it was possibly fraudulent,” says Chile.
