The Mexican Formula 1 driver Sergio Pérez (Red Bull) was sanctioned this Monday with three places on the starting grid of the Spanish Grand Prix, the tenth round of the calendar at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, for riding in the Canadian GP in his returned to the pits with a “significantly damaged car.”

Red Bull was also fined 25,000 euros for the incident, with the team confirming in the post-race hearing that Perez had been advised to take the car back to the pits as they were trying to avoid a Safety Car, with his teammate team Max Verstappen leading the race.
