Channels: “Our goal this year has to be to make the leap”

Sergio Canales is looking forward to the start of the new campaign with Real Betis, after being particularly fine this preseason, which he did not achieve last season, as he had some ankle discomfort that he had been treating all summer and made it impossible for him play the first league game. “It has been the preseason in which I have felt the best, the least pain I have had by far. It had been a long time since I felt so well in the face of the first league game, ”said the Spaniard, who after the departure of Javi García became one of the team's captains, in an interview on ABC.

Canales considers it essential to start the season well to engage the fans after the disappointing 15th place last year: “With the fans we have, we depend a lot on them. If they are motivated and see that the team can move forward and are excited, it is a plus. When we started the preseason from day one we set out to give a good feeling. Get the word win into our heads. And also do it with beticismo. It is important to generate that illusion, because it gives us that plus that this club has. The feelings that are transmitted go beyond the results, it is the energy that the team shows and that is the important thing. Now begins the serious, the good, the three points. And that's where we have to reflect it ”.

“I am very lucky for the affection that is always transmitted to me, that is fundamental. In addition, I fully believe in the project at Betis, despite last year. The club and the leaders are making great efforts. They have brought in a coaching staff like Pellegrini's, Antonio Cordón … People very involved in football and with a spectacular career. And you see the signings that come from good teams, people want to come … Having a project is something fundamental and since I arrived I have believed it and they have transmitted it to me. The projects are not built and the following year they already work, you have to have a base that is being built. It depends on us. Our goal this year has to be to take the leap and then stay there. We have to go all out to be on top ”, says Canales, convinced that Real Betis will have something to talk about this season.
