Champions League draw: teams, rules, format and what it will be like

The anthem of the Champions League will sound again after the break caused by COVID-19. In the draw that we break down here the quarter-final and semifinal matches will be known, as well as which team will play at home in the final on August 23, in Lisbon. Some quarterfinal matches that will not be complete until the four knockout rounds of the knockout stages unveil the last classified for this particular Final to Eight.

Which teams participate in the quarter draw?

Atalanta, Atlético de Madrid, Red Bull Leipzig and Paris Saint Germain They are already classified for the quarterfinals. While there are still four knockout stages remaining:

  • Chelsea-Bayern Munich
  • Naples-Barcelona
  • Real Madrid-Manchester City
  • Lyon-Juventus

When and where is the Champions League round of 16 draw?

The draw for this new final to eight will take place on Friday, July 10, at 12: 00h in the morning at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.

How does the Champions League round of 16 draw work?

The draw as we said previously, consists of three different draws. The first will decide the quarterfinal crosses; followed by the semifinals, matching the qualifying rounds of the quarterfinals; and a third draw to be determined by the 'local' team in the final for administrative reasons

Likewise, there are no seeds or protection by countryTherefore, teams can face teams from the same federation. Other restrictions will be confirmed before draws.

Where will the Champions League quarterfinal, semifinal and final matches be played?

All the matches in this final phase, with the exception of those that remain to be completed in the round of 16, will be played in a direct elimination round in Lisbon, Portugal, in a single match. The matches will be played in August between the José Alvalade Stadium of Sporting de Portugal and the Estádio do Sport Lisboa in Benfica, the scene of the grand final.

When will the remaining matches of the Champions League be played?

The meetings of the remaining knockout stages of the Champions League will be played on August 7-8 in the respective stadiums of each of the teams:

  • Bayern Munich-Chelsea (Allianz Arena)
  • Barcelona-Naples (Camp Nou)
  • Manchester City-Real Madrid (Etihad Stadium)
  • Juventus-Lyon (Allianz Stadium)

The quarterfinal matches will be played between August 12 and 15 (Lisbon). The semifinal clashes will take place on August 18 and 19 (Lisbon). While the grand final of the Champions League will be on August 23 at the Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica, colloquially known as Estadio da Luz.
