Chair tennis, judo and boccia open the Paralympic European Multichampionships

MADRID, 7 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Dutch city of Rotterdam will begin this Tuesday, August 8, its appointment with sports for people with disabilities, with the celebration of ten Paralympic European Championships practically simultaneously and all with Spanish participation.

In the Netherlands, the continental titles will be distributed in judo, chair tennis, chair basketball, shooting, archery, badminton, boccia, cycling, goalball and taekwondo, some of them with the added prize of distributing tickets for the Games of Paris next year.

The first competitions that will be launched will be judo, chair tennis and boccia, which start this Tuesday and where Spanish athletes hope to shine and be in the fight for medals. Chair tennis distributes Paralympic qualification for the champions, while Spain will compete in judo for the visually impaired with four athletes led by Sergio Ibáñez, silver medalist in Tokyo 2020.

At his side, Daniel Gavilán, bronze at the last World Cup, veteran Marta Arce, triple Paralympic medalist, and young María Manzanero, who made her international debut last year. The appointment does not distribute Paralympic tickets, but it is key to adding points for the qualifying ranking.

Finally, in boccia, where the winners of the BC1/BC2 team events, BC3 pairs and BC4 pairs will qualify for Paris, Spain will be represented by Amagoia Arrieta (BC1), European bronze in 2021, Wafid ‘Fido’ Boucherit (BC3 ), continental runner-up in 2021, and Verónica Pamies (BC3).

From there, the rest of the sports will develop, such as chair basketball, which will seek the Paralympic ticket with the women’s and men’s teams in an appointment that distributes two direct places. In shooting, there will be three tickets for men and as many for women between the carbine and pistol events, and archery will put five at stake for men and five for women between the compound bow (2), recurve bow (2) and W1 (1).

As in judo, the Taekwondo and Badminton European Championships will serve to add points for the qualifying ranking, while, on the contrary, it will not even have an impact on Road Cycling because only World Cups and World Cups are taken into account. of the World, nor in Goalball, which welcomes category C.
