Cervera: “I never imagined that Cádiz would make me see life differently”

Álvaro Cervera went to the Nuevo Mirandilla press room accompanied by his deputy, Roberto Perera, to say goodbye to the fans and the club after being dismissed yesterday as coach of Cádiz.

Before attending the media, Cervera dedicated some emotional words that he had prepared. “I have seen situations similar to mine, be it welcomed or dismissed. I have always seen people reading a paper and leaving. This is not the time to do it like that. I have written things down because I don’t want to forget anything, but things have to come from within, as has always been done in this city. “

And he continued with his speech, remembering many important people at this stage in his life. “I never imagined that at 50 when I arrived I would find colors that would make me see life differently. It is a sad one day, but not of reproaches, only gratitude. I will leave without making a sound, as I arrived. I knew this year was going to be difficult, the second year is always more difficult. I wanted to thank everyone who did their bit for the club to be where it is. To all those messages that I have received and to which I will respond. I don’t want to forget anyone, but I will make special mention of Antonio Navarrete, who left a few days ago and was a father to all; to the coaching staff, to Roberto, who I will never be able to thank for what he has done for me, to Servando, Bocardo … those who made it possible for this to be better every day; to doctors; physios; Salvi’s family, who took such good care of us; and to all, thank you very much “.

Special mentions also “at the sports level, to Juan Carlos Cordero, who always trusted in our work. Also to all the players who never negotiated anything and took the team where it is now. A Garrido, José Mari, Salvi … I take a different way of living and feeling. One more man from Cádiz leaves. I am leaving because I have a family that is waiting for me, and two children who are waiting for me to hug their father “. And he sentenced: “Thank you for so much, and sorry for so little”.

Before leaving the press room, he dedicated a few words that he had prepared and with his voice cracked with emotion he recited: “We are in a happy city with a different way of life. There has been something that I have saved for last. There are many people who have been absent in the last moments at Carnival, which is a party that captivates us all. Carnival has given us many friends. People who have stayed on the road and that I have come to know as Manolo Santander, Juan Carlos Aragón … I also remember the Baguetina with his megaphone. If you allow me, I just want to say thank you Cadiz for everything you have given me. Long live the cadists, long live your balls. You are First. Always yours, Álvaro Cervera “.

With strength to continue. “We have always taken it forward. I had strength. This year it was more complicated and they didn’t want to wait. After the last press conference I said that things had to be changed and the first one has already been changed.”

The day everything went wrong. “It was on September 26, 2021”, referring to the day of Rayo 3-1 Cádiz. And he added that that day he realized “that this year it was going to cost us more. These are things that had never happened to us and it was more complicated.”

The news of his dismissal, through the media. “They told me yesterday morning, but the day before, although I don’t have social networks, I received messages.” And he explained that “everyone does things as they think they should. Everyone has their own style.”

Responsible for the bad results. “I am the coach and the team has very bad numbers. In football I know that when things go like this, the first place you look at is the bench. It is like that and it is even normal. We were a large squad and it is difficult to manage because there are happier and fewer people and this year it was more difficult. But I don’t think about any further “.

The affection of the Cadistas. “I did not know to what extent people would show me that support. I would eternally thank them. I will return to Cádiz, I have a home and I will continue to be here. When I leave that door, I am past and that all that support they have towards me, they put it at the service of the equipment, that it needs “.

About the signings. “We are not a single team, we are 20, you have to see the improvements of the others and you can stay in the same place. We have failed in many things for sure and that is why I am here.”

He acknowledged that this year. “Something was missing. Last year a miracle happened and we had to work this season. I don’t get involved in much else because I’m just a coach. I’ll go out the door and I’m past. Cádiz is my team, it will always be. That feeling , It will hardly change in me. You will see me here because for a few years this has been my place and I will try to keep it that way. “

The relationship with Manuel Vizcaíno, president of Cádiz. “Our relationship was good now. There have been hard times and it was tried at a time if I got tired, but that’s far away. Now there were no problems. It was a cordial relationship.”

The fight is not negotiated. “There are many winks from the fans who were their coach and I tried to reciprocate. There is a mutual affection, but I am past and I hope all this can remain because they will remember me. I only gave people a voice. I am grateful and of In a way that has surprised me, because I am just a coach. Eternally grateful for everything. Sportingly and personally. Cádiz has changed my life. “

About the new coach, Sergio González. “I have not spoken, if you call me I will not have any problem. And people love their team regardless of who they are. They will support theirs.”

Defending Cádiz regardless of anything else. “I just tried to get the team to win and score points, whatever they think outside of whether the team defends more or less I don’t care. It wasn’t my problem. I don’t care what they think. This team was molding itself to get up to the First Division. “.

The sports management. “Our way of working is to expose what we thought the team lacked and what was left over. We have never gotten into names, that is already a club thing. Unless you know a player and say they could come, but that’s all”.

Without mention of Vizcaíno. “I have remembered the people that I had to remember. Yesterday, when I knew that I had to say goodbye, I made a quick movie through my head of the good and bad moments and I noticed the people who always appeared near me.”

He did not imagine this ending. “I said that I would never leave Cádiz, that they would kick me out, and that’s what happened. I didn’t think about leaving the club.”
