Cerezo will celebrate 1,000 games as president in Manchester

Enrique Cerezo will play against Manchester United his 1,000th game as president of Atlético. For the rojiblanco leader, the Champions League match this Tuesday will be very special: first for trying to pass on a stage like Old Trafford, in one of the most important stadiums in European football. And second for reaching that round figure. Cerezo is the president with the most games at the helm of Atlético: 999. Vicente Calderón was in 966 games as the top manager of the Madrid entity and Jesús Gil is the third, with 754.

The balance of Enrique Cerezo in these 999 games so far is as follows: he won 518, tied 239 and lost 242. Atlético has scored 1,571 goals under his mandate and has conceded 960. A mandate that is linked to Diego Pablo Simeone, who celebrated ten years at the helm of the Madrid team.

Cerezo has won ten titles with Atlético since he became president of the rojlbanco club: two Leagues, one Copa del Rey, one Spanish Super Cup, three Europa League and three European Super Cups. Vicente Calderón, who was the great president of Atlético, also won ten trophies. Calderón won in his first stage (1964-80), four Leagues, three Cups and the Intercontinental. In the second (82-87), a Spanish Cup and Super Cup. Also ten in total. Jesús Gil won four trophies: one League and three Cups.

Cerezo has won 3 Leagues and a Spanish Super Cup under the name of Atlético de Madrid Feminino and under the name of Atlético de Madrid Féminas a queen’s cup. Under his mandate, the club took an important step forward in terms of women’s football.

In these 1,000 games as president, the club saw its stadium change: from the Vicente Calderón to the Wanda Metropolitano. The Atlético stadium hosted a Champions League final for the first time in its history: that of the 2018-19 season between Liverpool, who ended up champion, and Tottenham. Atlético, on the other hand, has already exceeded 130,000 members, a figure that was unthinkable not long ago.
