Centennial derby

The Sevillian derby on Sunday at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán will be the 100th that Sevilla and Betis have played in the First Division. A special figure for a decisive match, which will say a lot about the European aspirations of both teams, since the green and white can be placed three points behind the white and red, fourth classified at this time. The balance of what happened so far leaves 46 wins for Sevilla, 30 for Betis and 23 draws. As far as the scored goals are concerned, 152 accumulates the Nervión team by 121 that of Heliópolis. The last goals were from Suso and Canales for the draw (1-1) at the beginning of the year at Benito Villamarín.

It has been more than 86 years since the first Spanish duel in the highest category. It happened on February 3, 1935, on the 10th day, when Betis defeated Sevilla 0-3 with two goals from Lecue and one from Adolfo, on the way to the first and only Heliopolitan League title. Twelve teams then formed the First division. The second derby of that season took place on the penultimate day. On April 21, Betis and Sevilla tied (2-2) in Heliópolis with goals from Unamuno and Lecue for the green and whites and Torrontegui and López for red and white. A week later, on the last day of the league calendar, Betis were proclaimed champions after beating Racing in Santander (0-5).

But there are other important figures. In the 42-43 campaign, Sevilla defeated Betis 5-0 with three goals from Berrocal and two from Raimundo. The most resounding victory in a nerve key. That season, those of Nervión closed the tournament as second in the table while Betis finished in the last place. 37 years later, it was the Heliopolis team that vastly surpassed its eternal rival. In April 1980, matchday 30, a double by Morán, to which were added the goals scored by López and Biosca, made Betis's triumph 4-0 a reality.. The biggest win for the Verdiblancos.

Doubts for the match. Betis trained without news, with the confirmation that Marc bartra he joins the group after two months injured, although playing would already seem hasty. Meanwhile, Sevilla keeps cotton to Suso, Diego Carlos and Koundé. The three of them got into the gym yesterday after the talk of Lopetegui, in a movement that seemed more of a precaution than of anything else because they drag physical discomfort. All of them are expected to be able to play in the derby. The Brazilian defender, in fact, endured the entire match against him Borussia Dortmund after being thrown to the ground and having to receive treatment before half an hour.
