At 55 years old, Celine Dion faces a difficult situation after being diagnosed with stiff person syndrome in December 2022. This autoimmune neurological disorder causes progressive muscle stiffness and spasms.
Claudette Dion, the singer’s older sister, has recently offered an intimate view of the battle the artist is waging. “It’s a disease about which we know very little. There are spasms that are impossible to control. Do you know that people often jump up at night because of a leg or calf cramp? It’s a bit like that, but in all the muscles,” he told Hello.
Céline “is a strong woman,” says her sister. “She is struggling every day to overcome her difficulties, but the situation has not improved,” she explains. At this point, the family clings to a “miracle.” “We are crossing our fingers that researchers find a remedy for this horrible disease. We pray for a miracle,” she said.
According to the family spokesperson, the support of all their family has been unwavering in these difficult times. Linda, another of the sisters of the interpreter of My Heart Will Go On has moved into her house to help with her care. “Linda informed me that Céline is working hard and is in constant contact with the leading experts specializing in this rare disease,” reveals Claudette.
The Eurovision winner in 1988 has not been on stage since 2019. In 2020, she canceled her Courage tour due to the Covid-19 health crisis and, in 2021, she did so due to health problems. “The muscle spasms don’t allow me to rehearse,” she said then.
