Ceferin: “I would not support another multi-venue Eurocup, it's not fair”

UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin will not support the idea of another multi-site Eurocup, the current one has been played in 11 countries on the continent, since it considers that “that's not fair” nor for participating teams nor for the amateurs, who have had to travel thousands of kilometers to play or watch the matches.

Some teams and their fans were forced to travel to the farthest places on the continent, such as Baku, in Azerbaijan, which represented a logistics nightmare. “If you ask me, I would not support it any more. I think it is too complex, in a way it is not correct that some teams have to travel more than 10,000 kilometers and others 1,000, for example, ”Ceferin told BBC Sport.

“It's not fair to the fans, who had to be in Rome one day and in Baku the following, which is a flight of four and a half hours. We had to travel a lot, to countries with different jurisdictions, different currencies, countries of the European Union and out of it, so it wasn't easy. It is an interesting idea, but difficult to carry out. I don't think we will do it again, “he explained. Ceferin.

Despite everything, the top leader of the UEFA believes that this has been a “special” Eurocup. “I will remember it as the beginning of normality and the return of the fans. I have never seen a Euro as dramatic as this, with great games and surprising results ”, he stressed.

UEFA's top president also recalled the “Terrifying” image of the Danish Christian Eriksen collapsing after suffering cardiac arrest in his national team's first game against Finland. “We were all completely shocked, but in a way, it was good that it happened in a high-level soccer game because the paramedics were there in 20 seconds and that saved his life,” he said.

Euro 2020 has been held in 11 cities in as many countries:
Spain (The Cartuja of Seville), Italy (Olympic of Rome), Germany (Allianz Arena Munich), England (London Wembley Stadium), Scotland (Hampden Park in Glasgow), Netherlands (Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam), Denmark (Copenhagen Parken), Hungary (Puskás Arena de Budespest), Romania (National Arena in Bukarest), Azerbaijan (Baku Olympic Stadium) and Russia (Saint Petersburg Stadium). The tournament will end this Sunday with the final between England and Italy at Wembley (9:00 p.m./Telencico).

Germany was chosen as the venue for Euro 2024 after beating Turkey in the bidding process, and the matches will be played in 10 venues in the country: Berlin, Cologne, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich and Stuttgart.

The Football Arena Munich will be the scene of a second Eurocup consecutive (something unique). The Bayernh field was one of the 12 venues selected as the venue for the current Euro, which now only has to elucidate the champion: England or Italy.

The last major football tournament to be held on German soil was the 2006 World Cup. The Federal Republic of Germany It hosted the Euro ‘88 and the 1974 World Cup.
