Catalytic converters: intended use

Catalytic converters installed on Honda vehicles consist of several chambers made of ceramic and metal. Since these parts operate at a temperature of about 300°C, the metals are considered the best option, as they are able to withstand such heating.

• rhodium.

Symptoms of malfunctions

Several factors may indicate a malfunction of the catalytic converter, including the following:

1. the draft effect is reduced;
2. problems with ignition.
3. changes in the color of smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe and a strong odor;
4. rattling sound under the bottom;
5. increased fuel consumption;
6. alert of the engine error on the dashboard (Check Engine).

The use of low-quality fuel and various additives can lead to premature catalytic converter failure. It is not recommended to postpone the repair or replacement of the part, as it can cause more serious engine damage.

How to check the catalytic converter

A visual inspection should be carried out when the first symptoms of the part malfunction are noticed. But the catalytic converter should be removed from the vehicle for this purpose. If there is mechanical damage on its case or there are some parts that are destroyed inside, it should be replaced with a new part.

Car service technicians can check the catalytic converter by performing computer diagnostics. The procedure does not take much time and enables them to quickly detect all errors and malfunctions of vehicle components.

Some technicians can repair the part through welding and honeycomb restoration. But this method is considered to be only the way to postpone the purchase of a new part.

To ensure that replacing the catalytic converter is not a big loss to the budget, the old part can be sold for further recycling. Dealers analyze the part and then announce the cost of the out-of-service catalytic converter. This is a great way to free up unnecessary space for a reward.
