Casper Ruud, Kopriva, Gaston and Djere advance to semifinals

The Gstaad Tournament is coming to an end And if surprises have been happening throughout the competition, in the quarterfinals, which were played today, they have not been lacking either.

Hugo Gaston and Cristian Garín played the first of four quarter-final matches. A fast-paced match in which the first set went to the young Frenchman (6-4) and the second to the Chilean (1-6). Already in the third and final set, the service breaks were happening until reaching a tie at six games. In the tie-break, there were up to six match points, 4 for Garín and 3 for Gaston, who took the third set 7-6 (11). Gaston, number 155 in the ATP ranking, beats a top-20 for the second time.

Gaston's semi-final rival will be Laslo Djere, who beat Frenchman Rinderknech in three sets 6-4, 6-7 (5) and 6-4. The Serbian tennis player won the first set, lost the second in the tie-break, and in third set he broke the Frenchman with 5-4 on the scoreboard. The semifinal between Gaston and Djere will be played tomorrow, Saturday July 24 at 11:00.

Kopriva – Casper Ruud, second semi-final

In the other branch of the painting, the Czech Vit Kopriva gave the surprise by getting rid of Mikael Ymer (6-1 and 6-0). Ymer, who eliminated Feliciano López in the round of 16, did not resist the Czech at any time, and after six service losses, he only managed to sign one point, not without suffering. Kopriva, who already eliminated Shapovalov in the round of 16, will face Casper Ruud in the semifinals.

Casper Ruud and Benoit Paire played the last of Friday's games. The Norwegian, number 14 in the ATP ranking, did not suffer in the first set (6-2), but in the second he lost the service just when everything indicated that the tie-break would be reached (5-7). With a tie on the scoreboard, Casper Ruud displayed his best tennis and won 6-3 in the third and final set. Like the other semi-final, the match between the Norwegian and Kopriva will be played tomorrow, Saturday, July 24 at 11:00.
