Casey Stoner auctions his Aragon monkey 2010 to help those affected by fires in Australia

MADRID, Jan. 21 (SportsFinding) –

The Australian ex-pilot Casey Stoner has announced that he will auction the monkey he wore during his victory in the 2010 MotoGP Grand Prix of Aragon to financially help those affected by the forest fires of recent weeks in Australia.

“It has been difficult to see forest fires at home during my vacation in the United States. However, it has been comforting to be abroad at this time and see the international support provided to our country during this terrible devastation,” he said on the website of the Australian auction house Pickles.

In this regard, he showed his sadness at the consequences of the fires, which have claimed the lives of at least 29 people and millions of animals. “I am saddened by all the lives that have been affected and the terrible impact on our land and its animals. As I spend much of my youth in rural communities, I am closely connected to our land and I feel it deeply,” he said.

“Therefore, for the first time I would like to make one of my Ducati race monkeys available to raise funds to help fight forest fires. We will remain strong during this time because we are Australians and that is what we do,” he said, highlighting The proceeds will go to the Australian Red Cross Fund for disaster relief and recovery.

The garment he has made available at the auction, which will end on Friday, January 24, is the one he wore during the 2010 Aragon Grand Prix, when he won the victory ahead of Dani Pedrosa and Nicky Hayden. Currently, the bid is at 10,300 Australian dollars – about 6,380 euros.

In this way, he joins the initiative of his compatriot Jack Miller, who auctioned one of his helmets of the 2018 season and raised 18,000 Australian dollars -11,149 euros.
