The international Dani Carvajal, the national soccer coach, Luis de la Fuente, Real Madrid, the judoka Fran Garrigós, bronze in Paris 2024, and doctor Manuel Leyes will be awarded, among others, at the IX Gala of the Association of the Madrid Sports Press (APDM), which will be held on January 27 (8:00 p.m.) in the capital of Spain.
Likewise, the driver Cristina Gutiérrez, the first Spanish woman to win the Dakar Rally, in the Challenger category, will also be recognized; to the Olympic soccer coach Santi Denia, for gold in Paris.
The APDM will also reward the journalists Olga Viza and María Escario, pioneers of sports information, as well as the Spanish Paralympic team, which achieved 40 medals in the last Paris 2024 Games – represented by Teresa Perales, Marta Arce, Álvaro del Amo, Iñigo Llopis and Dani Caverzaschi -, to the Spanish women’s water polo team, gold in Paris 2024), and to the national women’s basketball team 3×3, silver in the Games.
The work of the LaLiga VS platform, whose mission is to eradicate hatred both inside and outside the stadiums, making visible and condemning all those behaviors that have no place in football, will receive another of the awards.
Likewise, the Madrid Sports Press Association will award distinctions in the form of plaques to Miguel Carballeda, for his 20-year career at the head of the Spanish Paralympic Committee (CPE); to the 15 km Metlife Madrid Activa race, on its tenth anniversary; to Rayo Vallecano SAD for its centenary; and the delegate of Atlético de Madrid Carlos Peña for a lifetime dedicated to the red and white club.
The APDM Gala, created in 2016, will be held for the fourth time at El Beatriz Madrid Auditorium and will be broadcast delayed by Telemadrid’s La Otra, on February 1.
