Carolina Marín will lead a favorite Spain “at home” in the qualifier for the European team championship

MADRID, 5 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Huelva badminton player Carolina Marín will lead Spain in the qualifier for the European women's team competition that will be held from December 6 to 8 “at home”, at the High Performance Center (CAR) in Madrid, with Sweden, Italy and Luxembourg as rivals for the ticket to the final phase, according to a statement.

The launch of the 'Iberdrola 2024 European Women's Team Championship-Qualification Stage', the qualifying phase for the European Women's Team Championship, a competition held from December 6 to 8 at the CAR facilities in Madrid, took place this Tuesday at the headquarters of the Higher Sports Council (CSD).

Carolina Marín, leader of the national team, participated in it, thanking the support of the CSD and Iberdrola “for making it possible” for them to play the competition “at home”, where they train “every day.” Ania Setién, a member of the team, also spoke out, highlighting that “playing with the support of the public” will give them “the 'little point'” they need to qualify, against rivals – Sweden, Italy and Luxembourg – against whom they are favorites.

The event was also attended by the deputy director of High Competition of the CSD, Aitor Canibe; the president of the Spanish Badminton Federation (FESBA), Andoni Azurmendi; and the head of sponsorships at Iberdrola, Laura López.

Azurmendi explained that the organization of this competition fell to the Spanish Badminton Federation “because it was the team with the best ranking in its group” and from the first moment “the CSD supported the idea of holding it in the CAR.” “We have once again had the impetus of Iberdrola, which continues to give us confidence and energy to be better,” he added.

On the other hand, Canibe pointed out that “from the first day” the organization wanted to support the idea, to be able to enjoy Spanish sport in its facilities, and pointed out that it will be the first time that a tournament like this has been organized in the history of the center. “You are the brand of Spain and the brand of the 'Team Spain' project and our job is to help you fulfill your dream,” he said.

This will be the first time that Spain hosts a qualifying event for the European Women's Team Championship. This takes place in 6 groups, which are played on similar dates in different territories. In the competition taking place in Madrid, the Spanish team will face Sweden, Italy and Luxembourg starting on December 6.

The matches will be played on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The Spanish team will play all its matches in the afternoon, this Wednesday against Sweden, this Thursday against Luxembourg and this Friday against Italy.
