MADRID, 31 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish player Carolina Marín surpassed this Wednesday her debut at the Thailand Open, a tournament corresponding to the world badminto circuit and in the Super 500 category, after beating the young Thai Pitchamon Opatniput 21-17, 21-13.
The woman from Huelva returned to action almost two months after winning the Orleans Masters (France) at the beginning of April, her first title since the 2022 European Championship, and she did it with a good victory against a 16-year-old and current rival number 54 in the world ranking.
The local player gave work to the triple world champion, with whom she was measured for the first time, in the first set. Marín started solid (5-1) and although she found the answer from the Asian (5-4), she scored six points in a row to clearly escape again on the scoreboard (11-4).
However, Opatniput did not get nervous and little by little she was recovering ground from the Spanish to be close again (15-13) before the decisive stage. The six-time European champion met with resistance from the Thai, who finally relented after losing the last three points.
On the other hand, the second set was much more comfortable for the Huelva player, who started again strong to open a gap in the electronics that this time the local player could not play, despite her efforts. Marín easily sealed her pass to the round of 16 where she will face Indian Ashmita Chaliha.
