Carolina Marín loses the World Cup final against An Se Young, her black beast

South Korean triumph by 21-12 and 21-10

MADRID, 27 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish badminton player Carolina Marín lost this Sunday against the South Korean An Se Young in the final of the World Championship, played in Copenhagen (Denmark), where a 21-12 and 21-10 deprived the Huelva native of winning her fourth title in this tournament.

Marín, seeded sixth in this World Cup, lost to a rival that currently occupies number 1 in the international ranking. In fact, An has taken her measure, since her good result at the Royal Arena meant the sixth win in her last six duels with the Andalusian.

An went all out in the opening set and took the lead with a 4-1 run, basing his attack on moving Marin around with short shots. Despite the Huelva’s reaction, which she came to match (4-4), the South Korean showed more leg speed and took advantage of it.

Winning six points in a row, An was 10-6 and knew how to manage such an advantage until closing the first set. She had the necessary bit of luck with a shot from Marín that went by a very narrow margin, under consultation with the video referee, and which would have made it 10-7 at that moment.

However, the South Korean displayed a repertoire of formidable shots, such as an action diving to the ground to save a deep shot from Marín. The dynamics of the meeting was contrary to the interests of the Spanish, without the spark that she had shown in the previous days.

In tow and without those good feelings, An ‘smelled’ blood and went up 4-0 at the start of the second set. Marín was already dismasted at that point in the game (8-3), but had enough saves to tie the score (10-10) and dream of another epic afternoon.

Nothing could be further from the truth, An remained calm and did not concede points again until 21-10, ultimately final. After 43 minutes of battle on the court of the Royal Arena in Copenhagen, Marín fell before his black beast and settled for the silver medal.
