Carolina Marín leads Spain's ticket to the European team

The Huelva native started another 5-0 against Italy in Madrid before going to the World Tour Final

The men's team signed its second victory in the Netherlands against Latvia

The Spanish women's badminton team defeated Italy (5-0) in Madrid to sign their full victory and their ticket to the European Team Championship in Poland, while the men's team signed a second victory against Latvia.

Carolina Marín once again led the team with a first victory (21-8, 21-5) against Judith Mair. The triple world champion and Olympic champion in 2016 was also responsible for opening the victories against Sweden (4-1) and Luxembourg (5-0), before heading to China to compete in the event of the eight best in the world.

“Very happy to give my support and an important point to my team. It gives us more strength to start with a point. Delighted to contribute experience. I am also preparing for the World Tour Final and I am very happy to have played at home,” she said after her triumph.

Afterwards, Clara Azurmendi defeated Gianna Stiglich (21-7, 21-11) and Ania Setién was in charge of sealing the victory and qualification with a 21-9, 21-12 victory over Emma Piccinin. Spain wanted to dedicate another full victory to the Joaquín Blume High Performance Center and the points from the doubles confirmed that 5-0.

Paula López and Lucía Rodríguez defeated Martina Corsini and Judith Mair (21-14, 21-13), while Azurmendi and Nikol Carulla won the last point (21-17, 13-21, 21-12) of the Iberdrola 2024 European Women's Team Championships Qualification to Emma Piccinin and Gianna Stiglich.

On the other hand, in the Netherlands, the men's team took another important step in the absence of the duel against the hosts, in a 5-0 victory over Latvia after the plenary session against Hungary on Thursday. The first point was achieved by Pablo Abián by beating Reinis Krauklis by 21-15 and 21-15, and the doubles by Jacobo Fernández and Daniel Franco put the second after defeating Edzus Meirans and Rihards Zugs by 21-8 and 21-13.

In the third match Kike Peñalver secured the Spanish victory after beating Andis Berzins 21-7 and 21-8. Rubén García and Carlos Piris defeated Arturs Kelpe and Reinis Krauklis (21-12 and 21-16), while Álvaro Leal defeated Edzus Meirans 21-12 and 21-7.
