Carolina Marín, eliminated by An Se Young in the semifinals of the Thailand Open

MADRID, 3 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish badminton player Carolina Marín was eliminated this Saturday in the semifinals of the Thailand Open, a test of the world circuit and of the Super 500 category, after her defeat by 21-16 and 21-12 against the South Korean An Se Young, number two of the international ranking.

The woman from Huelva, who was showing a high level in this tournament since she had not lost a set, fell against an opponent who has lately taken her measure. The South Korean, bronze medalist in the last World Championship, thus chained her fifth victory in the last five duels with Marín.

The previous time their paths had crossed, Young didn’t even have to play to win because Marin withdrew from the All England before reaching the quarter-finals due to a feverish illness. And on this occasion, on the court of the Indoor Stadium Huamark in Bangkok, the Andalusian once again ran into a ‘bone’ on the other side of the net.

Young started quite well in the opening set, opening the gap quickly (3-0, 5-2, 10-6) and not letting go of the lead on the scoreboard until scoring that partial victory (21-16). Facing the second set, Marín did find a way to annoy her rival, until she reached a favorable 1-4 in the initial bars.

However, Young came back without palliatives and reached an income (18-9) that was ultimately insurmountable for Huelva. In this way, the South Korean will play the final against the Chinese Bing Jiao He, who this Saturday in the other semifinal beat the Danish Mia Blichfeldt 21-13 and 21-18.

“The truth is that right now I’m very frustrated with myself, especially because of many mistakes on the track. In the end, against this type of player, who only keeps the wheel in play, it’s difficult to always give me those easy points through my mistakes”, declared Marín at the conclusion of the match.

“I think that the points that I have missed have been more than a set and a half. Today we have to continue improving this type of thing, control that frustration on the court a little more through those continuous errors that I have had. Good , now to rest a bit and prepare for the next tournament,” he said of next week’s Singapore Open.
