The Valencian swimmer Carmen Weiler became the first great protagonist of the Spanish Championship that is being held from this Wednesday to Sunday in the municipal swimming pools of Son Hugo, in Palma de Mallorca, by breaking the national record of the 100 backstroke, one of the oldest that existed and that was in the possession of Nina Zhivanevskaya.
Weiler stopped the clock in the morning series of the distance in 1:00.07, lowering by 22 hundredths the mark that the Olympic medalist had achieved to hang the bronze in the European Championships held in Eindhoven (Netherlands) in 2008.
In addition, the 18-year-old swimmer from Real Canoe also achieved the qualifying mark to compete in the next World Championship to be held in the Japanese town of Fukuoka during the month of July, reported the Royal Spanish Swimming Federation (RFEN).
