Carlos Sainz: “Red Bull was in another league”

MADRID, 28 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish driver Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) admitted this Sunday that Red Bull, after the double in the Belgian Grand Prix, was “in another league” on the Spa track, at the same time that he regretted not having been “so competitive” in the Belgian circuit.

“The first two laps have been strong, but with high degradation we were degrading more than we should have. We will have to learn, because we have not been as competitive here, Red Bull was in another league,” said the Madrid native in statements to the microphones of Formula 1 after the race.

Sainz finished third, unable to get close to the two Red ull, with an intractable pace. “It was harder than we thought, we had no rhythm, the tires overheated and our package was not there this weekend,” he lamented, although he did celebrate his thirteenth podium finish in Formula 1.

“I did not expect it to be such a long-suffering race, I was hoping for an opportunity to defend ourselves. Red Bull had less degradation, they were faster on the straight, they put us a lot per lap. It tastes a bit bad after pole position and being ahead of both first laps,” he stressed in statements to DAZN.

Finally, he applauded Ferrari’s “perfect execution” this weekend in terms of strategy and pit stops, but “when there is no pace there is no pace”. “We were a bit locked up, we couldn’t shoot or defend ourselves. I’ll take the podium, it’s been a solid weekend,” he concluded.
