MADRID, 20 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) confessed that Red Bull does not give up but behind it “there is a close fight” where “anyone can reach the top”, second place in the Constructors’ World Championship and opt for podiums in the remaining races, starting this weekend with the Hungarian Grand Prix.
“Yes, I have relatively good memories because the race was quite tough for us. But, yes, we were quick in qualifying, we hope to be decent here this year as well. Knowing that Red Bull will continue to dominate, especially with the improvements they are bringing,” he told the media in preview.
The man from Madrid hoped to have a good performance at the Hungaroring, where he was fourth last year and third two years ago. “I hope it gives us the opportunity to return to the podium or at least fight for it and have a strong weekend,” he said, while acknowledging that the pursuit of Red Bull has several teams evenly matched.
“I think now there is such a close fight between Aston, Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren that anyone could come out on top. One or two tenths can make the difference, which makes the racing really fun and the weekend very tense and intense. You have to try to maximize it,” he added.
Sainz also confessed that in Silverstone they went down whole in that fight with the rest of ‘mortals’, tenth in Great Britain. “I hope this weekend we are on the better side of the spectrum because at Silverstone it seemed to me that we were on the lower end of the battle,” he said.
On the other hand, the Ferrari driver confessed in the Dazn microphones that the Hungarian one is a track that he likes. “It is a circuit that I like, in which I have always felt comfortable and I have gone fast. I hope that it is also a circuit for our car, which in the end is what is important, and what ends up making the difference in Formula 1”, he commented.
“The important thing is to keep improving the car and on the weekend when it goes a little better, try to get the most out of it,” he finished, wanting to perform again.
