Carlos Sainz: “I have no idea what the Losail circuit is like”

MADRID, 18 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish driver Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) confessed that he has “no idea what the Losail circuit is like”, the scene this weekend of the new and unpublished Qatari Grand Prix of the Formula 1 World Championship, and stressed that “it is still very tight “the fight with McLaren for third place in the Constructors’ World Cup.

“It’s weird because you normally go to the simulator the weeks before, but we’ve been away for five weeks and I haven’t been able to go, so I have no idea what the circuit is like apart from the ‘on boards’, but this weekend there is no Sprint , so we have three free to acclimatize, “said Sainz this Thursday at a press conference.

The Madrilenian referred to these ‘on boards’, the cameras that see the perspective of the rider, to know the route and of which he has seen “a few of MotoGP”. “There is also a GP2 video circulating and three or four videos on YouTube,” he said.

On the limits to overtake, he believes that “there should be no problems” if they give the drivers “margin”. “I should talk if it will be white line or piano because it seems that there is sand and it will be complicated if we put it back on the circuit. I hope they are consistent when setting the norm and thus be able to enjoy a good weekend on a different track “, he remarked.

Sainz recalled that he was “lucky” last Sunday after his touch at the start of the Brazilian Grand Prix with his former teammate Lando Norris. “I did not lose downforce, but it did compromise the entry into Turn 1 and 4 which made me lose positions and in the end I did my whole career after Charles (Leclerc),” he said.

“I feel that I was performing at a high level and that I should be ahead of Charles. It was a good weekend except for that start, but otherwise it would have been a very strong weekend,” added the Spaniard, who made it clear that he maintains his good friendship with Norris.

As for the battle for third place in the Constructors’ World Championship with McLaren, the sixth-placed in the championship warned that among the cars there is “a tenth or tenth and a half.” “So we talk about details because both in Mexico and Brazil, if we look at them, they could have had a car ahead of both Ferraris. We have gotten good points from them, but it could have been completely different and it is still very tight,” he said.
