Carlos Sainz: “As soon as I have tried to fight with Alonso I have destroyed the wheels”

MADRID, 5 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) regretted the tire degradation that seems to cause problems for the Scuderia again this season, after suffering at the Bahrain Grand Prix this Sunday, with no room to push, while congratulating Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin for their third place.

“We have tried everything, we held the first set of tires well but the race was taking shape and we finished where we deserved, behind Aston Martin and a Fernando who we already saw was going to make things difficult for us,” he said in statements to Dazn, collected by Europa Press.

The man from Madrid had a nice fight with Alonso, but his tires couldn’t take it. “It is clear that this circuit was not our forte due to the degradation there is. It was a pending issue from last year. As soon as I tried to fight with Fernando I destroyed the wheels. Then I recovered them but it left little margin, you shoot and you you eat the wheels. It is a subject that we will try to improve”, he affirmed.

In addition, Sainz, who finished fourth behind the Asturian, explained the touches with his friend. “I always respect Fernando and it has been a tough and beautiful battle, fighting for a podium that he and Aston Martin deserve for the work they have done. In the next races we will try to do better,” he concluded.
