Charles III has been formally proclaimed this Saturday, September 11, as the new King of England in a ceremony held at St. James’s Palace and which has been the first time in history in which the session of the Access Council has been televised.

The previously Prince of Wales automatically ascended the throne on Thursday after the death of his mother, Isabel II, at 96 years old, so the act of proclamation was purely ceremonial. The ceremony was attended by some 200 attendees, including former prime ministers Boris Johnson, Theresa May, Tony Blair y Gordon Brown.
Next to the monarch have also been his son Guillermowho rises one seat in the line of succession to the throne, and his wife, Camilla Parker Bowlesnew queen consort.
“I know how you and the entire nation sympathize with me for the irreparable loss that we all suffer. For me it is a great comfort to know the condolences that you have expressed. My mother was an example of a life of social service. My mother’s reign was unmatched in duration, dedication and emotion. I am fully aware of this great heritage and of the duties and responsibilities of the throne that is conferred on me. I know that I will have the effect and loyalty of the citizens of whom I will be sovereign”, said Carlos III in his speech.
