The son of Isabel II he wants to be the “king of the people”. For this reason, Buckingham Palace has shared with all citizens what the weekend of the coronation of Charles III and the queen consort, Camilla Parker-Bowleswhich will take place from Saturday 6 to Monday 8 May 2023.
The ceremony will be presided over by the Archbishop of Canterbury and the service will reflect “the current role of the monarch and look to the future, while taking root in the traditions and pageantry of yesteryear,” the royal statement said.
This day the coronation will take place in Westminster Abbey. Their Majesties the King and Queen Consort will arrive at Westminster Abbey in a procession from Buckingham Palace, known as the ‘King’s Procession’.
Following the service, Carlos and Camilla will return to Buckingham Palace in a larger ceremonial procession, known as “The Coronation Procession.” Their Majesties will be accompanied in this procession by other members of the Royal Family. At Buckingham Palace, the King and his wife will appear on the balcony to conclude the day’s ceremonies.
A special Coronation concert will take place at Windsor Castle on Sunday May 7th. Produced, staged and broadcast live by the BBC and BBC studios. The Coronation concert will bring together world music icons and contemporary stars to celebrate the historic occasion. Attended by an audience made up of volunteers from the King’s and Queen’s many charities, the concert will feature a world-class orchestra performing favorite tunes from some of the world’s biggest artists, along with with performers from the world of dance. The performances will have the support of a staging and effects located in the east garden of the castle.
Through a nationwide vote organized by the BBC, several thousand people will be selected to receive a pair of free tickets to the Coronation concert at Windsor Castle.
In addition to the stars of the concert, the show will have the exclusive participation of the Coronation Choir. This diverse group will be drawn from the most enthusiastic community choirs and amateur singers from across the UK, including refugee choirs, NHS choirs and LGBTQ+ singing groups.
The Great Coronation Luncheon
Neighbors and communities from across the UK are invited to share food and fun at Coronation Big Lunches on Sunday 7th May. The Big Lunch is the brainchild of The Eden Project, made possible by the National Lottery, which brings together millions of people each year to foster community spirit, reduce loneliness, and support charities and good causes. Camilla has sponsored the Big Lunch since 2013.
La Gran Ayuda or The Big Help Out takes place on Monday 8th May and is organized by The Together Coalition and a wide range of partners including The Scouts, the Royal Voluntary Service and faith groups from across the UK. The Big Help Out will highlight the positive impact volunteering has on communities across the country.
In tribute to His Majesty the King’s public service, The Big Help Out will encourage people to try volunteering for themselves and join the work being done to support their local areas.
