It was not to be. The Murcian tennis player’s Olympic dream was limited to silver despite having fought fiercely against the Serbian Novak Djokovic on the central court of Philippe-Chatrier, where this Sunday the golden glory was disputed. Carlos Alcarazwho has won the hearts of all of Spain with his friendliness and his closeness, has burst into tears after the bitter end. Support and encouragement for the champion have flooded social networks in a matter of seconds and one of the first messages to arrive has been from the Royal Family: “You are an honor. Great, Carlos!”
Felipe and Letizia, who are very attentive to everything that is happening in Paris, have sent a message of strength to the man from Murcia: “You have given us a final in which silver is not the least important. It matters a lot! A real spectacle in your first Games, only within the reach of the best”the text read. “It was a great match, Carlos!” He, in tears, answered Alex Corretja’s microphone: “It’s complicated, we fought a match for almost three hours. It hurts to lose the way I did but I leave with my head held high knowing that I gave it my all.”
It should be remembered that on the 1st of this month, Queen Letizia was a special witness to the tennis player’s passage to the semi-finals. She then greeted the entire team and congratulated Alcaraz in the locker room.
The King and Queen were the first, but not the only, to congratulate Alcaraz for this silver medal in his first Olympic Games. The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, also sent a message of congratulations to the champion.
