Carlos Alcaraz would win double what Nadal earned for his first Roland Garros: the exact figures

In his first participation at Roland Garros Rafael Nadalback in 2005, the Manacorí came back against the Argentine Mariano Puerta to win his first Musketeers Cup, which brought him a monetary prize of 1,103,960 dollars (1,034,041 euros). 19 years have passed and this Sunday it is another Spaniard who is looking for his first Grand Slam in Paris after winning the US Open and Wimbledon. If the Murcian wins the Roland Garros final against Alexander Zverev On the Philippe Chatrier court this June 9, the prize will be double what Rafa received in his debut as champion in the tournament in the French capital.

Neither Alcaraz nor the German had managed to get past the semi-finals until now. They debut as finalists in the Parisian tournament. But the qualification of the Murcian tennis player is a historic fact, since he has managed to break another record: being the youngest player to reach a Grand Slam final on three different surfaces.

Carlitos has the opportunity to win the Musketeers Cup

Roland Garros has increased its prize pool this year, reaching 53.3 million euros, 7.8% more than in 2023. Since the pandemic, the organization has made a significant effort to increase the prizes, benefiting not only the winners, but also the players eliminated in the initial phases.

This more equitable approach seeks to support more tennis players in their professional careers, ensuring that participation in a Grand Slam is economically viable. Both Alcaraz and Zverev will pocket more than 1 million euros. The winner wins a cash prize of 2.4 million euros, while the runner-up will take home 1.2 million euros. That is, the second will get the same as Rafa Nadal for winning in 2005, her first victory.
