Carlos Alcaraz will debut against the German Koepfer at the US Open

MADRID, 24 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The number one in the world, the Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz, will start the US Open, the last ‘Grand Slam’ of the season, against the German Dominik Koepfer, according to the draw held this Thursday, with a more demanding table than the one that will have its greatest rival Novak Djokovic.

The Murcian, who lost the final of the Cincinnati tournament against the Serbian last week, defends the United States Open that takes place from August 28 to September 10, in search of the third ‘big’ of his career and the second in this 2023 after winning Wimbledon, precisely against ‘Nole’.

First and second seeded start as clear candidates to see each other again in a final. The raffle left a more demanding path for Juan Carlos Ferrero’s pupil, who could face the South African Lloyd Harris, the British Daniel Evans, the also English Cameron Norrie and, already in the quarterfinals, Jannik Sinner.

The Italian is the favorite by ranking in his quadrant, but there are players with a lot of names like Alexander Zverev, Grigor Dimitrov or the ‘Grand Slam’ champions Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka. The Russian Daniil Medvedev would be the Murcian’s hypothetical rival in the semifinals, before the final that everyone is waiting for against Djokovic.

The world number two will debut at Flushing Meadows against Frenchman Alexandre Muller and will have affordable rivals as well as unseeded players on his way to a possible 24th Grand Slam title, equaling Margaret Court’s record.

In the draw for the women’s draw, the Spanish Paula Badosa, who is back on track after injury, will have an attractive first round against the American Venus Williams. In addition, Cristina Bucsa will start in New York against Petra Kvitova; Sara Sorribes against Anhelina Kalinina and Rebeka Masarova against Maria Sakkari. On the other hand, Alejandro Davidovich will debut against Marcos Giron; Roberto Carballés against Holger Rune and Bernabé Zapata against Ethan Quinn.
