The number one in the world forms the Spanish team with Masarova in Nice
MADRID, 20 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz faces a new challenge this week with the participation in the Hopman Cup, the International Federation’s mixed team tournament that returns this 2023 in Nice, forming a pair with Rebeka Masarova to represent Spain, after winning Wimbledon last Sunday.
The number one in the world is the great attraction of a Hopman Cup that reappears after four years, after the entry into action of an ATP Cup that did not prosper. The ITF mixed event returns far from its traditional date in January and its Australian enclave, to be played on clay in July in Nice (France).
Alcaraz’s debut will be this Thursday, against the Belgian David Goffin, a rival against whom he has been measured twice (1-1), with victory in Melbourne 1 in 2021 and defeat in Astana in 2022. The Murcian arrives in Nice after shining on the London grass to win his second ‘Grand Slam’ after the US Open 2022.
The world number one remained at the top with an impressive victory, one more for his collection at just 20 years old, against the Serbian Novak Djokovic. Alcaraz came back from a first set down and withstood the 23-time ‘major’ champion’s push to win the Wimbledon title in the fifth set. Of the flashes, the grass of the All England Tennis Club and the different tributes both abroad and at home, to the Nice Lawn Tennis Club.
The man from El Palmar will have to forget the green surface to return to earth, in France, where he will have level rivals. After Goffin and the mixed doubles with Masarova, who replaced the injured Paula Badosa, against the Belgian couple, Alcaraz will face Croatian Borna Coric on Saturday. The Spanish team will seek a ticket to the finals on Sunday and the fifth title for Spain.
