MADRID, 26 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has returned this Monday to number one in the ATP ranking, displacing the Serbian Novak Djokovic, who snatched the first position two weeks ago after winning his ‘Grand Slam’ number 23 at Roland Garros.
The 20-year-old from Murcia returns to the top after adding the 500 points awarded by the title in Queen’s (United Kingdom), where he beat Australian Alex de Miñaur in the final this Sunday in straight sets (6-4, 6 -4).
Thus, he will begin his 26th week at the top of the men’s ranking and will remain there until Wimbledon, the third ‘big’ of the season and which will be held between July 3 and 16. He will enter the event with an 80-point lead over Djokovic, where no one will drop points this year.
Alcaraz is guaranteed to maintain the number one in the world for at least three weeks, in the Eastbourne, Mallorca and Wimbledon tournaments, accumulating a total of 28 weeks at the helm of the ATP. It is the sixth time this year that there has been a change at the top of the ranking, the most in a season since 2018 (seven).
Djokovic, defending champion at the All England Club, will try to wrest Alcaraz’s privileged place to become the first tennis player, man or woman, to add 400 weeks in the world number. The Balkan currently accumulates 389 weeks, 79 more than the second classified male, the Swiss Roger Federer (310).
