Carlos Alcaraz leaves Rome thinking about Roland Garros

MADRID, 8 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz confessed this Sunday his decision not to play the Masters 1,000 in Rome this week, to recover well from a sprain suffered in Madrid and arrive in shape for the great goal of Roland Garros.

“Yes, I have thought about it (not playing in Rome). I think that given the state of my foot and my ankle and that I am very excited to fight for a ‘Grand Slam’. I think it is better to rest, recover the ankle, the foot , and being in Paris 100%”, he said at a press conference at the Caja Mágica.

The Murcian was proclaimed champion of the Mutua Madrid Open after crushing the German Alexander Zverev. In his fifth title, all of them in 10 months, Alcaraz left Rafa Nadal and Novak Djkovic on his way, and on Monday he will rise to number six in the world.

After in Barcelona and Madrid, and with the sprain he suffered in the quarterfinals against Nadal and that has accompanied him until this Sunday, Alcaraz explained his decision not to go to Rome. “Roland Garros is special because last year it was the first year that I was able to reach the third round, winning matches and playing well,” he said.

The one from El Palmar accepted the role of favorite after his exhibition in Madrid. “People will consider me a favorite, but that doesn’t make me nervous. It’s a motivation, I’m looking forward to going to Paris, to fight for the ‘Grand Slam’, to show my great level also in a ‘big one'”, he pointed out.
