Carlos Alcaraz: “I played the worst game of my career”

MADRID, 17 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz admitted that he played “the worst match” of his career this Friday in Cincinnati, which cost him his elimination in his debut against Frenchman Gael Monfils.

“It was very hard for me, I feel like I played the worst game of my career. I couldn’t play,” he said at a press conference after a poor return to the match that had been postponed on Thursday.

The Murcian was unable to secure victory in the tie-break of the second set and in the third set he continued to worsen to say goodbye in the second round of the seventh Masters 1,000 of the season. Alcaraz will now have to think about the US Open, the last ‘major’ of 2024.

On the other hand, the Spanish tennis player pointed out the speed of the hard court in central Ohio. “I’ve been training well, I felt fine, but maybe I felt like I was playing a different sport on the central court compared to other courts,” he said.

“My feeling is that I’m ready to win every tournament I go to. It’s impossible to get anything good out of this match,” added Alcaraz, who, despite his misstep in Cincy, will be one of the favorites for the US Open starting on August 26.
