MADRID, 14 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz affirmed that he must “remain the same” in 2022 to continue improving his performance and assured that “he is not” feeling the pressure of the ATP circuit, nor of the comparisons with becoming the ‘new Nadal’.
“I have to stay the same,” said the 18-year-old from Murcia. “New Nadal? I am not paying much attention (to this), I am not feeling that pressure. The key is to have a little, but not much as to harm your level and your mental health,” he added at the As del Sport.
“My big change this year has been mentally, I have made a very, very good change. This is fundamental in tennis,” said Alcaraz, who has won his first ATP title in 2021 by winning the tournament in Umag (Croatia). having reached the quarterfinals of the US Open, the last ‘big’ of the season.
“To anyone who had told me that all this was going to happen to me a year ago I would have told him that I was crazy. It has been a great year of evolution that makes me very happy,” said El Palmar, who did not go to the Tokyo Olympics for “sports issues”.
“It was a very different year, very different Games, the truth is that I would have loved to go but I took advantage and won my first ATP title precisely for not having gone to the Games. But I hope to be able to represent Spain in the following ones,” he said.
