Carlos Alcaraz: “I found fun in suffering”

MADRID, 7 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz celebrated his first presence in the final of Roland Garros after being able to find “fun in suffering” this Friday against the Italian Jannik Sinner in the semifinals, in a rivalry that once again demonstrated to have a lot of future in the big events of the calendar.

“You have to find fun in suffering. Even here, at Roland Garros, with the long rallies, four hours, five sets, you have to suffer, fight, but you have to enjoy suffering, that’s what I had talked to my team about,” he told foot of track.

The Murcian was interviewed by his compatriot and former tennis player Álex Corretja after winning another classic against the Italian by 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 and 6-3. “It has been one of the toughest matches of my career without a doubt. The toughest matches of my career have been against Sinner, today and the 2022 US Open,” he said.

“He is a great player, with a great team, you can see all the work he puts in every day and I hope to play against him many more times in these types of games,” he added.

On the other hand, Alcaraz explained a “strange third set”, where both suffered from cramps but he used the experience of last year’s semi-final against Novak Djokovic. “I saw him suffering, I had cramps and so did he. I have learned from last year against Djokovic because I was in the same situation. I knew I had to be calm, keep playing until they left,” he said.

“It was a strange third, but in the fourth and fifth it was a great match, with great points. I am very happy for everything I did, waiting for my moment,” he concluded, thanking the Spanish public at the Philippe Chatrier and citing them for Sunday, where they will compete for their third ‘Grand Slam’ against the German Alexander Zverev or the Norwegian Casper Ruud.
