Carlos Alcaraz continues to fine-tune the Davis in Vienna and Bautista falls in Saint Petersburg

MADRID, 29 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The young Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz qualified brilliantly this Friday for the semifinals of the Vienna tournament, scoring for the ATP and which is played on hard court, while Roberto Bautista said goodbye in the quarterfinals in Saint Petersburg, where he fell to the Croatian Marin Cilic in three sets.

Less than a month before the Davis Cup Finals are held, the Murcian player wants to give arguments to captain Sergi Bruguera to bet on him. The Madrid event is held on a surface similar to that of the Austrian capital and, for the moment, El Palmar is shining.

Juan Carlos Ferrero’s pupil got into his first semifinals of an ATP 500 category tournament and showed his progress against an important rival like the Italian Matteo Berrettini, whom he defeated in three sets 6-1, 6-7 (2 ) and 7-6 (5) in two hours and 42 minutes.

Alcaraz started overwhelming on the track and gave no options to his rival, against whom he only gave up five points with his serve, but the Wimbledon finalist managed to react, although he had to save several delicate moments in the second round with four balls of ‘break’ against.

Berrettini, third seeded in Vienna, finally reached the ‘tie-break’, where he was superior (7/2) to take the duel to a third and final heat where the Murcian knew how to stay calm after wasting a break of advantage and an optimal 4-1.

Very reliable in the serve until then, the Spanish lost his service for the first and only time in the eighth game and blank, but that moral blow did not affect him, although he had to play his luck again in a new ‘sudden death’, that this time he did smile at her (7/5). In search of the final, German Alexander Zverev will be measured.

For his part, in the tournament in Saint Petersburg (Russia), also on indoor hard court, Roberto Bautista said goodbye after losing to the Croatian Marin Cilic. The Castellón, who started as third seed, fell 4-6, 6-3 and 3-6 in a duel that lasted two and a half hours. Its elimination leaves the Russian contest orphan of Spaniards.
