Carlos Alcaraz, beyond being number 1 in tennis: a talismanic family and a golden fortune

“It is already a benchmark, but it can mark an era”, are the words he used Rafael Nadal to define the Carlos Alcaraz a few months ago. And it is that at 19 years old he won his first Grand Slam and managed to become the youngest player to get number 1 in the ATP men’s ranking.

This Sunday, already 20 years old, he faces the tennis player with the greatest of all time, Novak Djokovic, in the Wimbledon final. Alcaraz seeks to conquer his second Grand Slam against the Serbian.

Next to him, in London, are his parents, Carlos alcaraz y Virginia HookAnd his brother Alvaro. The young man has two other little brothers, Jaime y Sergio. For him, his family is his talisman: “Without them, the good times I spend off the track, nor the level I show on it, would not be possible. I am very lucky to have the environment I have”.

Carlitos, as his family call him and he calls himself on Instagram, was born on May 5, 2003 in El Palmar, a district of the Region of Murcia just a few minutes by car from the capital. He attended high school at the Marqués de Vélez Institute, in his town, and later preferred not to start a university degree because he wanted to focus 100% on tennis.

So, the support of two people was essential to achieve his goal: the grandfather Carlos and the coach Juan Carlos Ferrero. Grandpa was also a great tennis player. “He has always told me to focus on the three ‘C’s: head, heart and balls,” said the tennis player about the motto that he has learned from his grandfather. Ferrero, for his part, ruled out offers to train other promising youngsters in the sport and opted for Carlitos. “He is a phenomenon and we are going to make him number 1 in the world,” he said before making this achievement a reality.

the golden fortune

His special gift has been worked well and the results prove it. His victories also translate into a fortune of gold. In prizes, Alcaraz has won $16,660,732as published by the ATP itself, and to that we must add what is being pocketed in millionaire sponsorships with brands such as Nike, Babolat y Rolex. In his list of sponsors also appear Isdin, BMW, Calvin Klein, ElPozo Alimentación and the most recent, Louis Vuittonwho has appointed him ambassador.
