Carlos Alcaraz, after getting into the Wimbledon final: “Tactically I played a perfect match”

MADRID, 14 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz admitted this Friday that “it sounds incredible” to be a finalist in the Wimbledon tournament and that “tactically” he had played “a perfect match” to beat the Russian Daniil Medvedev (by a triple 6-3) in the semifinals of the third ‘Grand Slam’ of the season, which is played on grass in London (United Kingdom).

“The truth is that it sounds incredible, we are not going to lie,” Alcaraz told Movistar Plus about his status as a finalist. “Today was a spectacular match on my part. Although I started the tournament quite well, I have been feeling better and better, showing my best level and we are going to the final to win it, of course,” said the Murcian.

“I have shown a very, very good level from the beginning. I am going to say that tactically it has been incredible, as I already played the final in Indian Wells. Tactically I believe that I have played a perfect game and I have not given options to anything, nor I have left him no margin at all. I have always said that, if I show this level of tennis, tactical level and mental level, very few players can show a level that can surpass me”, argued the tennis player from El Palmar after beating Medvedev.

Asked if the final against the Serbian Novak Djokovic will be the biggest challenge of his career, Alcaraz was blunt: “Without a doubt.” “The truth is that here we beat Djokovic at Central, who hasn’t lost for 10 years, who has four titles in a row if I remember correctly, a ‘winning streak’ of 44… For me it will be the most difficult challenge of my career, but at the same time the most beautiful”, he pointed out.

“He is a very competitive player, very ambitious, he never settles for anything, he always wants more and more. If I have not seen it wrong, he has said that 36 are the new 26”, he joked about it. “He says it himself, that he is very hungry, he wants to be the best in history and in the end he shows it in every tournament, in every game,” he said.

“We are going to try to make it that way, to be hungrier than him, although it will be difficult. But we know what we are capable of, what we want, that we want to continue dreaming and see what happens on Sunday in the final”, added the Murcian just before analyzing his next appointments at the facilities of the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club.

“Now between the bike, drop [músculos], cold baths… well, we haven’t talked much either. But hey, I have to discuss that with my team. Not picking up the racket hasn’t influenced me badly either, so let’s see, one way or another we’ll be fine,” he asserted.

Also, he gauged his meteoric progression and how that can affect character. “In the end, I am the same boy as always. I am lucky to travel with many people from my team, from my family. In the end, being surrounded by the people you love, the people who have seen you grow , it helps you to maintain that boy of always”, emphasized.

In this sense, he specified that his circle helps him not to believe himself “better than anyone”, but “simply” to “continue living the dream of a kid who started playing tennis and who soon fulfilled it”. “We always try to enjoy it to the fullest and, above all, I am a very, very happy boy, who plays a lot of jokes and in the end being like that with your team helps you a lot,” concluded the man from El Palmar.
