Carballés, Taberner and Andújar, to the second round of the previous one

Three Spanish players will search this Sunday in the preview for one of the seven places still to be assigned for the main draw in the preliminary phase of the Mutua Madrid Open. Roberto Carballés, Carlos Taberner and Pablo Andújar they won their respective first round matches, while Bernabé Zapatá and Carlos Gimeno could not do the same and were eliminated.

Later, Taberner lifted a match point in the second-set tiebreaker and went on to beat third-seed Australian Jordan Thompson 3-6, 7-6 (6), 6-2. It will be measured with the Italian Lorenzo Musetti. Andújar closed the good day of the Navy with a victory on the fast track and clean against the Kazakh Mikhail Kukushkin (6-3 and 6-4). They will face Italian Stefano Travaglia, who passed Cain's to beat Gimeno 5-7, 6-1 and 7-5. The Valencian held up to 5-5 in the third set and then conceded a queibre that he could not match.

Zapata was also unlucky in his duel against the very tough and experienced Argentine Federico Delbonis, who won in two tiebreakers of the same score: double 7-6 (5). For the rest, the Serbian Laslo Djere (1st) and the Americans Tennys Sandgren (4th), Frances Tiafoe (5th) and Sebastián Korda (6th) fell. Marcos Girón saved the bad American day.
