Canada won gold in the men’s 4×100 at the Oregon World Cup (United States), denying the American team a double in the discipline, after the victory of the local women’s quartet.
Olympic champion Andre de Grasse (six Olympic and five world medals), who sat out the 200m in Eugene after recently testing positive for COVID-19, edged local athlete Marvin Bracy down the backstretch to catapult Canada towards gold, stopping the clock at 37.48, and freezing Hayward Field, which was already expecting another success from its athletes.
Thus, the United States, silver at 7 hundredths of the Canadians, did not know how to assert their favoritism in the event, with the world champion in 200 meters, Noah Lyles, in their ranks. Great Britain took bronze in 37.83.
For his part, the Olympic champion at the Tokyo Games, the Kenyan Emmanuel Korir, won his first world title in the 800 meters, after completing some spectacular final meters of the event, registering a time of 1:43.71, the best of the season.

In the women’s 5000m, 1500m silver medalist Gudaf Tsegay took home gold in a cautious race that was decided on the last lap, finishing in 14:46.29. Also Kenyan Beatrice Chebet was silver, while Dawit Seyaum closed the podium with 14:47.36.
Dutch star Sifan Hassan, seeking a long-distance one-two, emptied himself in the final 400m, limp after the last corner, finishing sixth with a time of 14:48.12.
