Cameras found in the locker room of a women’s team in Germany

METZINGEN (GERMANY), Jan. 20. (DPA/EP) –

The players of the handball team of the German club TuS Metzingen found two hidden cameras in their locker room this week, the club from the city located in southwestern Germany reported on Thursday.

A person close to the team was arrested on suspicion after the club reported the incident to the police, according to the information. The club indicated that the cooperation with this person was immediately terminated.

“This disgusting act – also committed by a person of direct trust – is simply outrageous and has hit us all very hard,” club manager Ferenc Rott said.

The director assured that he was “impressed” by the unity of the players and their joint decision to play against SG BBM Bietigheim, against whom they finally lost this past Wednesday 32-20.

“We will not let something like this bring us down and the fact that the team wanted to play handball again immediately is a very strong signal,” Rott said. “We have received a lot of support from the police, the association and other teams during this difficult time. That helps, of course, and we appreciate it,” he added.

The German Women’s Handball League (HBF) reacted “shocked” and guaranteed the Metzigen club its “full support”. “We strongly condemn this reprehensible act,” says a league statement released today. “A criminal act of this type contradicts all the values that we, as HBF, represent together with our teams,” he stresses.
