Calleja: “We have joy, but not euphoria”

Deportivo Alavés coach Javier Calleja admitted on Tuesday that, after the latest results and the first victory since his arrival, they are happy, but not euphoric because it would be “a very big mistake.”

The babazorro coach explained in the telematic press conference prior to the clash against Villarreal that they have no reason to be euphoric and must “continue working to obtain good results”, because “there are still many points left.”

Instead, he acknowledged that “the dressing room needed a victory like the one the other day because the work has to be seen through results.” He also admitted that “the team was anxious and wanted to win,” although he focused on Villarreal.

Regarding the match against the Castellón, the coach announced that they will not play “to see who has more possession or not”, but that they will seek to win the game with their weapons.

“Villarreal is born to have the initiative and create with combinative actions and positional play,” said the Complutense about the rival and said that they will try to hurt them when they have the ball and that they are not comfortable when Unai Emery's have it.

In this sense, he stressed that he is concerned that “it is a team that dominates many aspects of the game.” “It is capable of going into space, of being vertical, when they associate they dominate you and arrive at a very good time,” he said.

But Javier Calleja prefers to focus on his team and said that “not conceding goals is essential”, something he has achieved in his first two games on the bench. Now he understands that “the room for improvement is three-quarters from that field onwards, where they have to” get more out of it “at the times we arrive and finish the plays. “We have to look for more chances than we have to get more goals,” he considered.

The Alavés coach will face the club in which he trained as a coach. “I have spent many years there, very good ones. I have friends and I will always be grateful, “said the Madrilenian, who reviewed that he came from the bottom and had” the opportunity to reach the first team and grow both personally and professionally. “

On the other hand, he did not want to pronounce on the Super League and referred to the club's statement in which he rejected the creation of the competition. “We do not know how it will end, it is far and we will see if it goes forward,” he stressed about a project that does not depend on him and on which he does not want to focus.
