Daniel Caligiuri became the hero of Ausburgo after scoring the goal of his team’s vital victory against Arminia in a duel against a direct rival in the fight for permanence.
Not that he shined Augsburg, rather the opposite. The both of Caligiuri (50′) came in the first shot between the three sticks of the team. Not that the Arminia was much more offensive either. In fact, the first half ended with just one shot.
Augsburg came out with more momentum after the break and found the prize. Cedric Brunner lost the ball and Vargas put it on perfectly so that Caligiuri scored at the far post.
Beyond what little was seen on the pitch, it highlighted the pre-match petition from Augsburg and Arminia calling for the war to stop. In fact, locals wore a T-shirt that read “Peace everywhere!” with a dove drawn.
