Calavera uncovers himself and is Girona's top assistant

The first round for Girona is over and if there is a player who is claiming this course, it is undoubtedly Jordi Calavera. The right-back has become indisputable and, in addition, he is responding to the trust that Francisco has placed in him. Last season he was not able to overcome, between the League and the Copa del Rey, the 805 minutes (Pablo Maffeo was the starter), but this season is not leaving room for maneuver for young Yan Couto. Calavera accumulates 1,812 minutes spread over 20 League matches and two Cup matches.

But Calavera's contribution goes beyond the purely defensive because is Girona's top assistant this season. It is being uncovered and its centers to the area tend to create danger. Between the League and the Copa del Rey he has already distributed five assists and each one to a different player from the squad. Of course, in common they have to all have served to win the game or, at least, draw. He made his debut assisting Mamadou Sylla against Cartagena (2-1) and helped the striker to sign a double and add the three points in Montilivi. Then it was necessary to wait until the end of 2020, but it was worth it because he assisted Stuani to make it 1-0 against Logroñés. But if your end of the year was good, his start of 2021 is being to frame. In the last two games he has given three assists. Against Lugo, in the Cup, he placed the ball in the area that ended in Marcelo Djalo's own goal and at the end of extra time his center was headed by Santi Bueno to goal for 2-1. And last Monday against Ponferradina, it was Calavera who assisted Monchu in the 0-1.

In the last duel at Toralín, Calavera was fine, although Girona was unable to take all three points (1-1). Despite this, the right-back wanted to extract the positive side and sent a message full of optimism for the second round of the competition: “We closed the first lap with a point on a difficult field. Blind trust in this team. Looking forward to the second round ”.
